St. John's, Sparta received the Annual Bishop's Award for the outstanding ministry they have done with the Hispanic/Latino community in Sparta - especially in the work done through the Lugar de Reunion Cenetr which they founded and support. The latino poulation in Wisconsin has doubled in the last 10 years, going from around 96,000 to over 200,000! As a direct consequence of this mission, in the last 9 years the attendance at St. John's has doubled, the number of their youth has increased 4 and one half times, and their income has almost tripled.
Awards for excellency in ministry and a copy of Presiding Bishop Katharine Jefferts-Shorie latest book were given to Archdeascon Jeanne Stout, The Rev. Guy Usher, Mr. Bob Allen, Diocese of Eau Claire treasurer and Ms. Eillen Yeakly, vice-peseident of the Executive Council. An award and book were also given to Mr. Bob Weathers, treasurer of the Trustees (not pictured).
